Certificate of Advanced Pattern Making - Part Time

This is a second year subject which will suit those who have successfully completed the Certificate of Pattern Making and Garment Construction at the Melbourne School of Fashion or have obtained an equivalent qualification elsewhere, or can demonstrate sufficient industry experience. The syllabus comprises advanced pattern making techniques in womens' wear, mens' wear using flat pattern work, draping techniques, toiling, and also using computer aided manufacturing.

Course Content

  • Pattern creation for intricate and complex styles including bias cut silhouettes, advanced leeve designs, men's and women's pattern tailoring.
  • Creating patterns to produce well-fitting garments.
  • Advanced measuring and fitting techniques and specification sheets.
  • Computer Aided Manufacturing and grading using current software packages relative to the Australian Fashion Industry.
  • Accurate interpretation of design concept, creating precise patterns and garments.
  • Understanding the interrelationship between fibre content, drape/fabric properties and patternmaking.

Course Prerequisites

  • Certificate of Pattern Making and Garment Construction
  • Other equivalent tertiary qualification or equivalent industry experience
  • Sufficient time at home for completion of assignments and set tasks
